Just one of many practical examples: The imitation grease solidifies and sticks to the inside of the valve. This prevents the lubricant from being dispensed correctly, which leads to severe damage to various machine parts.

Shelf life of LUBE lubricating greases
We frequently receive inquiries about the shelf life of LUBE lubricating greases. As a general rule, LUBE recommends using the lubricating grease within two years of the filling date. The filling date can be found in the “Lot” number on the label on the bottom of the cartridge. The two digits indicate the year and the letter after them indicates the month.
